No red meat

I've tried not eating any meat before. It lasted a couple of days and made me generally unhappy and hungry. I have decreased my meat consumption a good deal over the past couple of years, aided along the way by my wife's reminders of the impact of my consumption behaviors. (by that I mean the cost of the production of meat versus other food products in terms of draining the ecosystem). So, for the new year, I tried one of those cheesy resolutions and resolved to not eat red meat. This again lasted a couple of days before I had to decide what exactly red meat is. I love pizza and eat it for lunch often. Pepperoni? Those sausages, what are they made of anyway? I suppose the pause for reflection alone has decreased my overall dietary intake a little.

Sure enough, I have totally lapsed. One a friend invited me over and heated a supreme pizza, which of course included sausage. I ate most of it and enjoyed it. In Kansas I ordered a Mexican pizza after checking the ingredient list twice to be sure there was no meat included. Of course it included ground beef and I relished it. I know that I'll miss roast beef dearly, but I like the idea of at least trying to see how long I can hold it up. I keep convincing myself that it's making me trimmer, but I doubt the health benefits of eating chicken and not beef are all that great. If I were going to health, I would have given up fried foods. Maybe next year. For this year I am trying to not eat red meat.
