Godzilla for MVP

When Hideki Matsui was a rookie he was blatantly robbed of the rookie of the year award. He was the best rookie that year. The fact that he earned a few MVP awards in Japan should have never come into play. Ichiro never had his award doubted or questioned in his historic first season.

In 2004 Matsui settled into the big leagues and had a great season by all measures, not just for rookies. Still, he finished fifth best among Yankees in the AL MVP voting. Gary Sheffield almost won the award despite numbers comparable to Matsui's.

In 2005, the stories are abounding in NY. However, Hideki Matsui more than any other Yankee is responsible for the team's first two victories. This gets overshadowed by a Randy Johnson fastball or a Derek Jeter HR. This is unfair. In my eyes, Godzilla is the MVP of the Yankees. He has a consecutive games played streak, he plays defense great, he is willing to play centerfield, he contributed a large amount of money to tsunami relief efforts, he is a professional in all aspects, and he plays the game hard.
