Vacation
This year we vacationed in North Carolina. Basically doing things that we wanted to do as day trips and such, but returning home to sleep instead of going to a hotel and using other beds and bathrooms. I took off Thursday and Friday from work. Lisa is done with her summer work and has a week off before school starts again.
Thursday: dropped Lisa's car off for new tires, went kayaking on Eno River for several hours, picked up Lisa's car, went to lunch at Elmo's Diner, rented two movies, picked up some things at grocery store, took Maddie to vet for annual visit, ate a small salad for dinner, watched Deliverance.
Friday: slept in, ate waffles at home, dropped off books at the Duke library, went to Duke Primate Center where Lisa's friend Jodie works - Jodie rescued us from the visitor tour of the lemurs for a little tour of her own, ate a wonderful late lunch at George's Garage on Ninth Street, got books from the Durham Library, napped at home, went to Chapel Hill to check out some jazz, got coffee at Caribou Coffee, returned home where Lisa worked on her knitting and I watched the Transporter and read 1/4 of The United States of Walmart.
Saturday: I slept in while Lisa put the finishing touches on her knitted sweater, ate brunch together, went to 2PM showing of Broken Flowers at the Carolina Theatre, drove around Durham a little, grilled some burgers at home, went to the Carnivore Preservation Trust in Pittsboro for evening feeding tour, stopped back at City Beverage for nachos and a beer, retiring for bed afterwards.
Sunday: I finally checked the mail and stopped to say hello with the Hodges on the way, we ate lunch together, I read another 1/4 of The United States of Walmart, we returned the movie rentals, went to Barnes and Noble for a couple magazines, ate at O'Charleys restaurant, and cleaned up the apartment, doing dishes and laundry in the process.
It was awesome to have this time together and to try and make the most of it. It was rather economical altogether, considering we ate out every day at least once and did things that cost money every day. We also further explored the area here and as Lisa noted, anything we liked we could repeat again if we so chose. It was also very restful to be able to sleep in our own bed at night and to not have to spend hours on the roads before vacating. Very blissful experience. We might have to repeat it again someday!
