Cat Senses

OK, so superhero characters don't say their cat sense are tingling. Cats are too skittish to be relied upon as having a solid set of senses. Maybe they can hear great but interpret the signal with sheer panic because they are lack the capacity to distinguishing among perceived risks.

When we first got a cat it was alarming to see her get excited... about nothing. Soon we realized that the cat is just simply not a good alarm system, because it goes off too frequently and often is a false alarm.

Since the cats sometimes run under the bed when they think they hear something that is actually not there, it does not convey anything to me anymore. However, if I think I hear something at the door I can always look to my cats to see if I heard correctly. If they register no reaction, I am spared the confusion. So, the cats are sort of an augmentation of my senses, a form of a hearing aid.

I guess that is a long way around to saying that the lazy cats that sleep around the house all day long are actually good for something... sometimes.
