Responsible

Having a baby around makes me feel like I ought to be much more responsible. Her needs are basic, literally food and shelter, but the sentiment I feel goes beyond that. The emotion is that I need to provide, I need to establish a routine, I need to set an example, I need to be a responsible person.

Therefore, it strikes me even harder that men who distance themselves from their children are really deficient. I understand everyone has different circumstances, but negligence seems the most likely suspect.

Maybe this is why the gap between the bachelor and the father distances over time, as one shirks being responsible and the other is compelled to be more responsible. Trajectories widening apart over time.
