The Iraq 55
On March 20, 2003, the US military struck against the Iraqi military regime. Shortly thereafter, in a bid to highlight the targets sought for removal from power, the US released a list of most wanted Iraqis as promoted by a deck of cards of the top 52 most wanted. As we approach the 5 year anniversary of the invasion of Iraq I wondered if any of these top targets remained. As it turns out the Department of Defense website lists the captured/killed as redlined cards. By my count there remain 9 at large, so 82.6% of the original targets were addressed. It is possible this website is not up to date (I doubt that since it promotes successes). It is also possible some of these men are dead and buried or have some entered into secret agreements to cooperate with the US.
In any event, here are the remaining at-large targets:

According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._list_of_most-wanted_Iraqis), there are 10 at large remaining from the original 2003 list of the top 55 most wanted Iraqis. One, Nayif Shindakh Thamir, has no playing card in the deck of 52.
It also appears that the top ranking at large person remains an active leader in the insurgency according to reports from late last year. 22 groups announced a coalition and named Izzat al-Douri (King of Clubs) as their leader.
