Unwanted Mail

What if there were a website that allowed you to be removed from the mailing lists of all the catalogues you receive in the mail and do not actually want (including those for former residents at your mailing address)? Turns out, this already exists online!

Catalog Choice is a free and easy to use website that requires surprisingly little from the user and offers a surprisingly large list of catalogues to decline. I really enjoy that one account may add alternate names, so I can add catalogues for my wife and myself under one account rather than toggling between separate logins. The site FAQ lists a number of groups backing it all seemingly with ecology and paper savings in mind. The National Resource Defense Council promoted this service in December as "our gift to you this holiday season".

I have no clue how many catalogues are actually of interest, but I am sure that the 19 billion mailed are not all desired by all recipients. Any reduction in this bulk constitutes a win for all sides involved. I think this is great for all sides!
