Scale

Scale separates electrons from molecules, cells from people, planets from galaxies. It's well-known and intuitive that different forces act differently at different scales.

Measuring in powers of 10 does not adequately measure the distinctions of varying orders of magnitude, because it lacks the human quality of a name. Computers easily parse 107 from 1017, but the difference is meaningless to anyone that I know. The absence of a relative yardstick capable of marking the difference in scale from subatomic particles to galaxy robs vast differences from easy understanding. To say Jupiter's Great Red Spot is over 203 km wide is one thing, but to say it could encapsulate a couple of Earths is far more meaningful to most people.
