Robot Child
In the 1980s there was sitcom called Small Wonder with a premise of a technologically adept father creating a robot that looked and acted like a real girl.
One of my elementary school teachers, I recently learned, told my father I reminded her of that show. It was meant as a compliment in that I (apparently) did everything I was told and did whatever they expected out of me in the classroom.
I reminded my father that he was a teacher with the school too... and the compliments were probably more about complimenting a co-worker's child than my merits. Lisa reminded me that in one of her first conversations with my father he told her I was "like Jesus" as a boy.
I'm sure I was a sweet kid, but no matter how obedient the superlatives are too much. As a father myself, I understand that and hope to curtail my pride in my children. Hopefully if I fail it will be a victimless crime.
