School Interview

The night before we were to take Sonya to see her new school I realized that it was her family that was judged, not her. I panicked and decided I needed to wear a tie to the school. The administrator and teacher, as it turned out, simply ushered Sonya into the classroom and told us to be back in an hour. So much for me making an impression. I had a hunch Sonya would like it and not want to leave and that was so very true - she cried on the ride home and said she wanted that to be her new school. For that reason I hope that it is. After many questions as I could ask, Sonya let us know she was introduced to the class and was "shy a little bit" but she liked the children. The fact her daycare currently has only a couple of other girls and this room offered many more girls for her to befriend. She also was asked about letters, numbers, and how to spell her name. I think she did well, at least as well as a child her age could really perform. I'll always remember the smile on her face when she walked into the class and the way she ran out to greet us later - she was happy there... at least on that day.
