Jump the Shark

I stumbled across a phrase that seemingly has a narrow usage: "jump the shark" is an expression I used at work a couple of times with mixed results. The origin of the phrase comes from the television show Happy Days, when "The Fonz" literally jumped over a shark on water skis:
The term originally meant an absurd or low moment in the television series, but I've used it to loosely depict the moment when things went abruptly wrong. Since Happy Days did not translate across all generations the phrase lacks meaning to a lot of people.
