Kohls

Friday night I received an email from Kohls:
Welcome!
Ready for some savings?
Looks like you recently signed up to receive our Sale Alerts. One click on
the "confirm" button and you'll be set.
Problem was I never signed up for anything! So I emailed myaccount.help@kohls.com:
I received a strange email about signing up for some alerts, but I should not even have an active account with Kohl's (don't want one, thanks) and definitely did not sign up for any kind of sales alerts of any kind. Please advise as soon as possible.

Thanks
Two minutes later I received an automated response:
Thank you for contacting us!
We have received your inquiry and are assigning it to a representative. You can expect to receive a response from us within one business day.
Four minutes later I received a lengthier response:
Dear Valued Kohl's Customer:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding your request to no longer receive Kohl's Sale Alerts. I can certainly understand your concern and I am pleased to assist you.

We pride ourselves on offering great discounts through the Kohl's Sale Alerts program. I am very sorry that you no longer wish to receive these offers. I removed your e-mail address as requested which will be processed within 7-14 days.

Kohl's is proud to offer sale alerts, which are e-mail messages about our biggest sales and promotions. There is no obligation and no hassle; you are not required to create an account to receive these sale alerts. Every e-mail we send you will include an easy opt-out feature to let you unsubscribe. We do not share, sell or rent the information you provide us, including your e-mail address to third parties. I deeply apologize for the confusion involving the e-mail that you have received.

We appreciate the time you took to contact us and look forward to serving you again at Kohls.com.
Since I never signed up in the first place I did not like the way the email implied I "no longer" wanted the emails, as if I changed my mind or something. I'll never know how the company harvested my email address, but I really wanted a simple apology instead of a lengthy advertisement about how wonderful the sales alerts supposedly are. I am thankful for a prompt response email, but 7-14 days seems a long time to merely delete my email address from their database.
