Our tornado drill
In the wee hours of the morning my cellphone buzzed. I was sleepy and mistook it for my daily morning alarm. Instead, I had received a notification about an impending tornado alarm. I might have easily slept through this update if not for Lisa's prodding. She guided us downstairs and in compliance with the warning directions, we found ourselves the only place we could avoid windows - the bathroom. The kids had pillows and a blanket, which they were surprisingly obliging to share on the floor. Lisa sat on the toilet. I was crammed in the corner behind the door. We had about half an hour together in this proximity. Fortunately the storm did not create any tornado in our area, despite passing directly over our neighborhood. We were very thankful for that, and had a sleepy day of course. However, the real eye-opener for me was the reminder at how well-behaved the kids were throughout the ordeal, without too much fuss or complaints. They did better than I did!
