Civil War soldier toys

After visiting the sights to see at Fort Macon, we stopped by the gift shop. Dylan picked out a couple of bags of plastic army men, one Union and one Confederate. The Union troops were represented by 3/8 musicians, 1/4 men with binoculars, 1/4 flag bearers, and only 1/8 brandishing a weapon. The Confederate troops were all armed with weapons, but 5/8 assuming a non-aggressive pose while only 3/8 actually aiming their weapons. Probably not intentional, but among these toys the Union has more pageantry and the Confederates have more apathy. Also, the Union flag has an odd number of stars. I counted 39 stars which is neither the number of states in the Union before nor after the Civil War. The odd pattern does not appear to match any of the actual history flags of the United States, but it did cause me to check out these old flag patterns. My favorite is 33 stars arranged in the pattern of a large star.
