P. Diddy in Durham
I work next door to the Marriott in downtown Durham, whenever I am working my night job. This past Friday, none other than P. Diddy made an appearance. It coincided with the CIAA basketball tournament in the area recently. The link to the promoter's site is: http://www.adolphshiver.com/main.php?update=35539
I had to post that because I could not believe what I was told about this event next door. Here are the pricing:
9:00-9:30 Free, if you printed out a ticket from the Internet and brought it with you.
9:30-10:30 $20, if you printed out a ticket from the Internet and brought it with you.
"After that, you're own your own" = they make up prices at the door
no ticket = they make up prices at the door
Now, this means they could charge whatever they wanted if you did not bring a ticket from the Internet (free to acquire, if you knew to bring it) or if you got to the door after 10:30. When I left at 10:30 this was going to be the case for many as the lines made little progress in several hours. If the doors opened at 9:00, there was a massive crowd all around the block. If you showed up at 10:00 you were waiting for a long time outdoors - in lines separated by gender. So if you brought a date, you had to spend probably an hour or two separated and had to make sure everyone had enough cash to cover an anything goes admission fee.
This is about as close to robbery as a business can operate. Suspect advertising. How can anyone charge different prices to different people for the same event at the same time for the same service and maintain a line of people around the block? I don't get it. I would not have waited out there for anyone short of Jesus himself.
