Working the Wedding

I was left to hang out as house manager for a wedding on Saturday. Fortunately, the sales and marketing director stayed with me for the first half, helping make sure that everything went smoothly. I was very nervous and felt mostly uncertain directly because I had no clue what my role was. I did nothing but watch people have a good time all night long. I felt like a slight bouncer or something. It was a long, boring night for me. They looked like they had a great time though.

I did have a moment when I thought everything was coming apart. My sole fear was the moment someone would get hurt. I was pondering what to do in such a scenario when I came into the main hall and halted in my tracks. Everyone in the place was standing dead still and absolutely quiet. I looked on stage where the dancefloor was and it was the same there. My heart fluttered, thinking that someone had fallen injured somehow. A circle of women formed a circle on the right of the stage. I heard something... they were singing a somber tune. In the middle of the circle the bride was hunched down and unfurled upwards like a flower raising towards the sun. I nearly lost control and had to promptly leave the area lest insult someone with a snicker or all out laugh at their sorority antics.
