Madeline's Teeth

Time rolled around and Maddie came due for her annual check-up at the neighborhood vet. I convinced Lisa that this should be a family outing and she accompanied me there. Maddie again proved to be quite friendly and forgiving for all the poking and prodding going on. However, something rather illuminating came about. Something disturbing. Between her largest teeth, the fangs that make larger cats ferocious, our poor Madeline lacked any teeth. Nothing bu gum between her fangs. Somehow this had never been noticed ever before by us, though it would be alarming if we were to have intimate knowledge of her teeth. Mysteries abound about the former life of our cat, before we adopted her from the shelter, of which this became an alarming addition. The vet first seemed accusitory, then admitted that the area was well-healed over and could not have happened any time recently. A discussion ensued that involved the plaque on her molars. I cracked that anything to remove that and decrease her bad breath I would support. This won me no favor with the vet. Earnestly however, we decided to proceed with scheduling a full dental exam. The risk of a cat aging without any teeth left is one we will not take. In two weeks she goes in to be knocked out for a teeth cleaning and examination. I hope they don't find anything more mysterious about her teeth.
