Settling In

OK, we moved everything we own. Most of it is in place now. There are still things to do here or there, but basically this is it. We're really happy and everyone has adjusted very well to the new environment. We need to purchase some more furniture; I lovingly call one room the "rug room" as that is literally the only thing in it. We'll get around to all that, first we need to get the washer/dryer in place.

We collected a lot of mail from the previous owners as the mailmen apparently disregarded their change of address request. I've noticed we've yet to be forwarded a single piece of mail from our old address. I know we don't get much mail (thanks to diligent requests for removal from direct marketing lists), but none in a whole week is unlikely. I cannot help but envision our mailman three years ago when we lived in the apartment in town here. He would eat his lunch in the shade in our complex. Then he would spend an hour or three sorting through mail at the kiosk.

When we passed along the stack of mail to the previous owners, they gave us a slice of cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. Nice gesture I suppose, but we had two friends over at the time. One piece of cheesecake for four adults simply does not work! They made a couple of remarks about missing their old home. I quickly rebutted "no take backs", which Lisa thought was hilarious and demanded I blog it.

The biggest surprise is how easy it was to let go of the old house. In talking recently we realized that we had not thought of it much. There was more of a close community there, necessitated by proximity for starters, but we know to give this one more time to unveal itself to us. The paths are great and we use them often. That, more than anything, is Sonya's favorite aspect of the new house. The cats love the trees and view of the birds in the backyard. I like the tranquility of a quieter neighborhood and a larger home with more elbow room. I suspect Lisa loves just about everything. So far, so good.
