Fun Sunday

Lisa has been a little under the weather recently. Sunday she spent the entire day in bed, more or less. This left me alone with Sonya for nearly the entire day. I decided very early on that I wanted to have fun with her and enjoy myself.

We played quite a bit and took advantage of some really nice weather. It was a little tricky trying to stop her from stepping on worms and poking them with sticks, but all things considered it was a really fun day for us. I told Lisa recently that Sonya's instincts are familiar to me. I never know how she will react to something but most of the time I understand why she says or does something. This compounds my amusement. I hope to not lose this insight as she ages.

The moment I will remember best from today took less than a minute. Before that we had a couple of hours of playing ball, getting coffee, and buying greeting cards together. Last on the list was dropping off something at the neighborhood association office. She gleefully agreed to help. On the walk up a little girl, probably a year old, smiled and followed Sonya as she walked. My daughter walked with her head turned nearly completely backwards watching the younger one watching her. Then at the door to the office I held open the mail slot for Sonya to deliver our mail. We even said goodbye to it before closing the mail slot. I liked that.

The second best memory to me was in the coffee store. There was a balloon that belonged to no one. I pulled it down for her, but she let it go. I gave it to her again and she let it go again. She preferred to stand on chairs and try to reach up for the string. It was well beyond her reach but she enjoyed trying more than actually having the thing in hand. I enjoyed watching that.
