Spider hole

Working in the yard I came upon a hole in the yard about three cubic inches. My first presumption was a snake made a home there. I went to move a leaf sitting in the bottom of the hole so I could gauge the size of the hole. Luckily I wore gloves at the time. A brown spider an inch or so long hopped out of a cavity in the side of the hole. We looked at each other was a while. He was furry with the kind of teeth that belong behind glass. It's probably a wolf spider.

Since this little guy eats things we would rather not have in our yard anyway, it is an ally and I thank him for his contribution to the yard.

Searching for pictures of spiders online I stumbled upon videos of dogs in spider costumes:
