Economsts
Economists are historians who focus on economies.
If they were able to predict the future of economies, they would not be economists. They would be investors making massive profits.
Asking an economist about the current or future state of the economy does not make sense. Yet that is precisely what media outlets do, they ask these historians to predict the future. A March 2009 USA Today article cited top economists predicting the US economic slump will recover in the fourth quarter of 2009. This is the same quarter hosting massive American holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas. In other words, the experts claimed the end of the recession will coincide with the retail boom of the buying season. Is that really expertise? Last year the USA Today economists predictions mostly anticipated slow growth in 2008 - not a recession.
