Pickle People

A while ago Sonya watched a cartoon that had characters referred to as pickle people. I'm not sure if that's what the cartoon called them, what they looked like, or anything about them. A few days after that show she started talking about her fear of pickle people. I had to stand outside the bathroom to keep her safe from the pickle people. I made silly noises and she enjoyed my company, so I was not sure how much she feared them.

Sunday night, we played together for a while under our neighbor's theme of "secret agents" and I got to see first-hand what that meant. Primarily it consisted of talking very quietly, hiding, and spying on Lisa. Our subterfuge was not subtle. Our "disguises" were one of Lisa's winter hats and a pair of her winter gloves that I wore and derby hat that Sonya wore. Sonya insisted on calling a yellow plastic toy (the center piece of a stacking ring) a sword and hiding it in Lisa's laundry. Somewhere during this very enjoyable play she began to refer to us as the pickle people. We'd yell "pickle, pickle" at Lisa and hide over and over.

How quickly the pickle people went from fearful horrors to what we called ourselves.
