Astigmatism

About 15 years ago, at the encouragement of roommates tired of watching me squint at the television, I went to have my eyes checked. They said then that I had astigmatism and I would probably end up needing glasses for nighttime driving. They gave me a pair of glasses to wear on an as-needed basis. Today, at the encouragement of a family tired of watching me squint while driving at night, I again had my eyes checked. Completely healthy, except to astigmatism. Another prescription for glasses to wear on an as-needed basis.

So what is astigmatism? According to NIH, it is an abnormally curved cornea. This curvature causes light refraction differences resulting in less clear and more blurry vision. Glasses can help with my focus, especially when driving at nighttime.
